Good start but that is not a SMARTER goal.

S-Specific – How much work?
M-Measurable – you can’t measure this goal because it is not specific.
A-Actionable – can you take action on this goal today? If not, it’s not actionable.
R-Result – You may sell some work but it is not likely that you will find your tribe because you have not developed your creative enterprise by first defining your mission and USP. See the 8-part methodology.
T-Time bound – by when?
E-Evaluate
R-Revise

I plan to put my functional work on Etsy in order to get an idea of which work resonates with people and where. The goal is to find “my tribe” and this looks like it might reach the widest audience while requiring me to develop photographic skills and further develop computer and business skills.

I have had my own program/business teaching children at an after school program which has been successful.

I developed my skills as a ceramic artist while raising three teenage girls. The studio I worked in looked down upon sales and disparaged those of us interested in actively selling out work. And then I found “Artists Who Thrive.” I am sometimes discouraged because I am entering the selling market late in life and your newsletter helps.

My goal is to have a small business that I can manage effectively as I grow older and a support network to develop my art for the rest of my life.

This year I have attended three crafts fairs, put myself on Etsy, hired a computer tutor and am developing a website, Facebook presence, etc. My goal for this year is to really understand Etsy, develop a better understanding of my own art, and learn more about what is available to artists in Oakland by volunteering with Pro Arts Open Studios in exchange for my entry fee. I will also continue to take classes at the local junior college to further develop my artistic skills.

That said, I still feel a bit at sea about what direction to take, but with the help of your newsletter and other networks, I keep pushing forward.

Thanks.
